Rainforest Alliance Job Vacancy: Field Coordinator, Climate - Bali

Position Summary:
The  Field  Coordinator,  Climate  is  responsible  for  providing  direct  technical  support and field coordination in the identified climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies and activities of Rainforest  Alliance’s  Millennium  Challenge  Account-funded  project  in Indonesia:  Cocoa Revolution  -  High Yielding Climate-Smart Cocoa Farms.

The position  will  manage the delivery and implementation of climate activities, including training and capacity building.  S/he will work under the supervision of Senior Manager, Climate in close coordination with the Project Manager, Sustainable Agriculture, as well as with the Evaluation &  Research (E&R)  Manager  and other units within Rainforest Alliance.
  • Act as the main technical lead on the projects climate-smart activities focusing on  strategies that  help  to  increase  adaptive  capacity  of  participating  farmers  and  reduce  the  impact  on surrounding forests and on-farm tree stocks contributing to the overall objectives of the project of sustainably, intensifying cocoa production whilst reducing deforestation;
  • Coordinate project activities that will lead to the  mapping of participating farms  in order to assess their land cover and land use changes over time;
  • Coordinate and manage the collection of baseline data on biophysical aspects of the farming systems such as tree densities, input use, production practices,  etc. to inform the design of climate-smart project interventions;
  • Contribute to the development of locally specific guidance and training materials for climatesmart cocoa production; 
  • Coordinate climate risk and vulnerability assessment for the project geography to help identify appropriate climate-smart activities to be implemented in the project region;

  • Manage the assessment of GHG fluxes (e.g. the carbon footprint of cocoa production systems; their  optimal  biomass  and  stocking  densities  etc.)  using  the  Cool  Farm  Tool  and/or other appropriate assessment tools;
  • Lead, on a representative sample of farms, the necessary training to implement and monitor actions to reduce GHG emissions, increase yields and improve the adaptive capacity of farms:
  • Organize and maintain records on project information and materials;
  • Maintain regular contact with the Senior Manager, Climate for technical support & guidance; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s, Licentiate or  master’s  degree in  Forestry, Environmental Science, Agriculture  or related area;
  • Minimum  2  years  of  experience  in  carbon  modeling  for  agriculture,  forestry  and  land  use projects; 

  • Experience of cocoa agronomy; 
  • Solid understanding of the principals of cocoa agronomy and climate-smart agriculture; 
  • Technical experience carrying out forestry/agroforestry inventories for the purpose of GHG accounting;
  • Strong analytical skills,  capacity to work independently  on complex  reports,  managing multiple sets of data;
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, environmental issues and sustainability practices; 

  • Experience with climate change adaptation issues and strategies strongly preferred; 

  • Project coordination experience preferred;
  • Written and verbal proficiency in Bahasa and English;
  • Excellent  abilities  in  the  use  of  tools  for  word  processing,  electronic  spreadsheets,  carbon assessment tools and computer programs;
  • Excellent organizational skills, capacity to work independently and as part of a team, analyze priorities, and multi-task with strong attention to detail;
  • Willing to travel up to 5% of the time nationally.
