Annual Fee Range : starting from USD 48,000 – USD 108,000

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Associate Durable Solutions Officer and the overall supervision of the Senior Protection Officer, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
  • Interpret for UNHCR staff conducting interviews with Rohingya refugees and asylum-seekers to help staff gather basic biodata and information about their reasons for seeking international protection and their protection concerns en route to and within Indonesia. 
  • Provide written translations when necessary.
  • Assist in compiling information on activities being implemented in relation to UNHCR’s response to the Bay of Bengal situation; 
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
Education: A university degree in Law, Political Science, Social Work, Journalism, or related discipline.

Experience: Four (4) years of work experience in a similar area or in the wider human rights field. Experience working in a multi-cultural environment or international context is an asset.

Nationality: As this is an international position all nationalities other than Indonesian will be considered.

Languages: Excellent knowledge of Rohingya and English (written and oral) highly essential; knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia or other UN languages is an asset.

Desirable Skills: Good written and oral communication skills; computer literacy; good knowledge of UNHCR’s protection mandate; understanding of interviewing techniques; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Impartiality: The Interpreter shall interpret accurately and suspend judgement during his/her work and shall not advocate on behalf of either party.

Confidentiality: The Interpreter shall not repeat oral or written information disclosed during the course of his/her work.

Demeanor: The Interpreter shall remain professional and respectful at all times.

Applicability: The Interpreter must have read, signed, and agreed to be bound by UNHCR’s Code of Conduct.

Working Relationships
(i) Within UNHCR involving the exchange of a wide range of information;
(ii) With external parties: local authorities, NGOs, and international organizations.
