Applications are invited for the above position in the BRIDGE (Building Relationships through Intercultural Dialogue and Growing Engagement) program of the Department of Education and Training at the Australian Embassy, Jakarta. The position is a non-ongoing position for a period of two years, with the expected commencement date at the end of May 2016.

A monthly salary of IDR 18,330,311 will be offered to the successful applicant.

The aims of the work of the Australian Government Department of Education and Training are:
  • To position Australia as Indonesia’s partner of choice for education, training, research (including science) to advance Australia’s economic interests; and
  • To improve intercultural understanding between Australian and Indonesian communities, businesses and institutions to underpin Australia’s economic diplomacy strategies.
BRIDGE is a professional learning program using international school partnerships to build teacher and student capacity to develop cultural awareness, improve language skills, improve ICT skills, and broaden and improve teaching methods.
BRIDGE is an important part of Australia’s support to the education sector in Indonesia.  It builds people-to-people links between Australian and Indonesian teachers and students and improves communication through global learning and new technology via sister school arrangements.  There are now 132 school partnerships under the Indonesia BRIDGE program.
About the position
The BRIDGE – Senior Project Officer works independently under the broad direction of the Counsellor.  The Senior Project Officer leads program planning, delivery and administration. This is a diverse role that includes all aspects of project implementation.  Broadly this includes stakeholder management, budget monitoring, professional learning development and delivery, coordinating high-level visits, media collation, and school support and program administration.
The key responsibilities of the position include to:
  • Lead the day-to-day implementation and operational requirements of the BRIDGE Indonesia office including maintaining relationships and communicating with teachers, principals and project partner organisations, and liaising with the BRIDGE Australia office;
  • Lead program administration in Indonesia and support the BRIDGE program team in Melbourne as required;
  • Supervise the administrative officer in all aspects of their work – procedures, work flow coordination, record maintenance, and adherence and compliance with relevant policies and operational guidelines; to ensure efficient and effective delivery of program activities;
  • Oversee the program budget, review and report on expenditure;
  • Lead logistical support for official and project visits;
  • Lead the Jakarta BRIDGE office contributions to monthly, progress and annual reports for submission to the BRIDGE office in Melbourne by providing data that is current and accurate.
  • A university degree in a relevant field is essential.
  • Work experience in an international setting is desirable.
  • Highly developed communication skills both in written and spoken English and Indonesian.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to deliver a range of professional learning workshops and presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to liaise with people at all levels.
  • Strong planning skills, initiative, good judgement, flexibility, responsiveness and problem-solving skills to deal with operational issues.
  • Ability to supervise staff, work independently and manage competing priorities under pressure, exercise initiative and take responsibility for achieving project deliverables.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a small team and to represent the team within the Embassy and externally as required.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, ICT tools to support collaboration and be familiar with, or have the ability to learn, the DFAT finance system.
  • Knowledge of Australian and Indonesian education systems, curriculum and policies.
Eligibility/Other Requirements
  • Knowledge of the  BRIDGE program and its role in SE Asia is desirable.
