The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. In Indonesia, TNC has been supporting improved natural resource planning and management for 25 years, including working with government, private sector, and local communities. We currently have an opening for:

AQUACULTURE MANAGER

The Aquaculture Manager is responsible for achieving the outcomes of the aquaculture program and serves as the aquaculture principle contact for TNC Indonesia Program.  S/he establishes TNC as a major conservation partner in aquaculture, starting with seaweed, defines conservation priorities, leads and manages a cross-cutting team to refine and implement the seaweed strategy, and builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field.  S/he develops innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address the development and management of aquaculture program, widely communicates solutions and best practices, and engages support for the strategy within TNC and the conservation community as well as aquaculture groups.  S/he provides technical and program support to TNC programs that are a part of the strategy by identifying and resolving technical issues. The Aquaculture Manager develops and implements key partnerships with public & private organizations, in collaboration with the Global Aquaculture lead and the corporate engagement team, public policy team and field offices, negotiating complex and innovative solutions to develop and implement conservation strategies that conserve and protect ocean habitats and natural resources.

Duties include:

  • Responsible for developing and implementing TNC-IP aquaculture program strategy with its focus on seaweed farming and help it grow from an initial approach to an established program by working closely with field offices.   
  • Identifies and makes the case for the best opportunities for TNC engagement on aquaculture based on analyses of the market, ecological impacts, type of aquaculture, partnerships, etc.
  • Helps write proposals for funding and support fundraising efforts as appropriate.
  • Explores and establishes partnerships with public, private and NGO sector organizations to advance the strategy objectives.
  • Identify and help launch aquaculture projects based on the strategy and identified opportunities, support and track development of these projects over time.


Qualifications:

  • Preferably 7-10 years’ experience in aquaculture specifically in seaweed industries or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.  
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience developing partnerships (partners, community, government).                                       
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
  • Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes and aquaculture business.
  • Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives.
