Mercy Corps Indonesia Job Vacancies: 2 Positions, Palu - Central Sulawesi

A major earthquake on 28 September 2018 that triggered tsunami, liquefaction, and landslide in Sulawesi, Indonesia has caused at least 2,077 casualties, 4,438 people injured, and 205,870 people to be displaced (AHA Centre Situation Update No.14, 22 October 2018). The most affected area identified by the Government of Indonesia is Donggala, Palu City, Sigi, and Parigi Moutong. MCI is currently responding and developing strategy for early recovery to meet the immediate needs and to help recover the livelihood of the affected communities.

All below positions will be hired as temporary staff for 5 months.

Basic Needs and Livelihood Specialist
The Basic Needs and Livelihood Specialist will be working closely with the Indonesia Disaster Response Program team. S/he will be responsible for planning and implementing the design of early recovery interventions, leading the team to do detailed assessment to better understand the impact of the disaster to local livelihoods, to initiate the recovery and improvement of livelihoods of the disaster-affected communities, while coordinating closely with relevant stakeholders and cash program-related clusters.

The position includes developing tools for planning, assessment and intervention monitoring; building active community participation into project design and implementation; ensuring design of high-quality interventions suited to the local context; monitoring and tracking program activities; designing training modules and delivering trainings for MCI’ staff and designing and supervising baseline and end line surveys. The specialist will also support resources mobilization and represent MCI at meetings with local authorities and other relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in International Development, Business Administration or related field. Masters preferred.
  • 5 years in a relief and recovery setting with managerial experience; from starting up programs to working in emergency and transitional contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience in cash programming.
  • Knowledge of Sphere standards and other training in humanitarian response preferred.
  • Ability to effectively represent Mercy Corps and its interests to key stakeholders including host governments, and national and international NGOs.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills required.
WASH Specialist
The WASH Specialist qill be working closely with the Indonesia Disaster Response Program team. S/he will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality WASH interventions (including infrastructure and hygiene promotion); developing and evolving the organization’s strategy and future direction in WASH; engaging actively with the WASH Cluster, local governments, and all other WASH actors; managing a team of staff across dispersed locations; and managing program budgets.

The position includes developing tools for planning, assessment and intervention monitoring; building active community participation into project design and implementation; ensuring design of high quality interventions suited to the local context; monitoring and tracking program activities; designing training modules and delivering trainings for Mercy Corps’ staff, and designing and supervising baseline and end line surveys

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Public Health or related field. Masters preferred.
  • 5 years in a relief setting with WASH management or managerial experience; from starting up programs to working in emergency and transitional contexts.
  • Experience in complex and complicated settings with time sensitive deliverables in unstable environments.
  • Knowledge of Sphere standards and other training in humanitarian response preferred.
  • Knowledge of participatory approaches and community sensitization and mobilization.
  • Ability to effectively represent Mercy Corps and its interests to key stakeholders including host governments, and national and international NGOs.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills required.
