Seefar is seeking a passionate and talented Communications Officer for a project in Indonesia. The Communications Officer will be part of the Modern Slavery Communications Project Team, reporting directly to the Project Manager. The Communications Officer will be charged with developing and implementing an information and communications campaign specifically targeting women. This is a full-time position for Indonesian nationals for an initial 10 months, with the possibility of extension. Travel requirements are anticipated to project locations in and around West and Central Java

Job Description

Modern slavery is a major global issue today, with particular relevance in the Asian region. Victims of modern slavery are often hidden, which is especially the case for domestic workers who live and work in the privacy of their employer’s homes. There are many potential victims among the millions of women across the region – mainly from Indonesia and the Philippines – who are leaving behind their homes and families to work abroad in destinations like Hong Kong and Singapore.

The Communications Officer is a newly established role within the Modern Slavery Communications Project. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing a strategy for, and implementing, a communications campaign targeting first-time female migrant domestic workers using appropriate online and offline techniques
  • Developing a campaign work plan, including determining strategies to reach target audiences through social media
  • Developing high-quality social media content, including visual and written online media posts
  • Working closely with project team members to determine relevant offline content
  • Overseeing the design and production of communications materials such as audiovisuals (photos & videos), brochures, posters and other materials based on the project’s needs
  • Executing, as appropriate, agreed campaign activities
  • Using appropriate software and the methods for undertaking monitoring and data analysis to report on the effectiveness of social media (such as coverage and engagement analysis) and offline media activities
  • Administering online accounts and feeds, including responding to questions or queries raised through social media
  • Liaising with donor staff to engage them in developing campaign materials
  • Strengthen the positioning of the project as a trusted platform for first-time migrant workers and recruitment agencies
  • Developing and maintaining contacts with national and local media outlets
  • Monitoring media opportunities’ and responding to them proactively in consultation with the project team
  • Preparing and disseminating, as required, press materials or project information packages
  • Contributing to enterprise-level communication materials

For this role, we are prioritising candidates who are dedicated, enthusiastic and focused on supporting the delivery of projects to benefit some of the most vulnerable people in the world. The ideal candidate would have two to three years’ experience in communications, journalism and social marketing, ideally in the development sector.  Successful candidates with have the following qualifications:

  • At least two years of experience in communications and campaigning
  • Relevant secondary or tertiary qualifications in journalism, communication, public relations, marketing or related fields
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to write and edit materials in Bahasa Indonesia and English
  • Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, including creating content and overseeing activities
  • Experience with social and digital media, preferably with knowledge in monitoring and measuring reach and effectiveness of messaging
  • Ability to collaborate with others and maintain relations, whilst capable of working independently
  • Capable of working under pressure, demonstrated flexibility and able to manage priorities and time to meet expected deliverables
  • Preferred exposure to issues of migration and modern slavery
To excel in this role, you will start with at least an undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, public affairs, or a similar area. You will have at least two years of professional working experience, preferably in a similar role. You have excellent communications skills and experience in planning a communications strategy, producing materials and have strong capabilities in utilizing online and social media platforms. You have good written and conversational abilities in English. You are expected to be self-reliant, results oriented, and manage multiple deadlines. You must be flexible in a changing environment and anticipate future needs, and have ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision. An ideal candidate must be energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive. You must also possess exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and demonstrated ability to convey messages through clear and concise writing.
