ALERTAsia Foundation Vacancy: EOCRU Laboratory Technician (Analis Kesehatan), Jakarta

The Eijkman-Oxford Clinical Research Unit (EOCRU) opened in 2008 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology and the University of Oxford, to conduct collaborative research on infectious diseases impacting the health of Indonesians and residents of other Southeast Asian nations.

In 2012, the University of Oxford also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia and, as part of this MoU, the Universities of Indonesia and Oxford Clinical Research Laboratory (IOCRL) was established. IOCRL, being part of EOCRU, is a research facility that serves as a hub to support clinical trials and other clinical research, education, training and public engagement.

In conducting the work in Indonesia, EOCRU is assisted by Alliance for Emerging and Re-emerging Disease Threats in Asia Foundation (ALERTAsia), a local foundation assisting in research grant management and capacity building for local researchers.

Through ALERTAsia, EOCRU is seeking a Laboratory Technician at IOCRL to handle, coordinate and archive all research specimens that are collected as part of the ongoing research projects on brain infections.

S/He plays works under the supervision of the IOCRL Lab Manager, with associated responsibilities to the Study Coordinator.

The general duties and responsibilities are listed below, but not limited to: 
  • Coordination and archiving of the study specimens that are being collected as part of ongoing and new research projects on infectious diseases, in collaboration with the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia. 
  • Responsible for accurate and timely performance of specimen receipt, logging, handling, centrifuging, aliquotting, storage, documentation, and specimen transfer to other labs, as stipulated in the project’s SOPs.
  • Develop and maintain a biorepository of all study specimens in the freezers of the IOCRL (blood, smears, CSF, urine, a.o.), with accurate and up-to-date administration, ensuring that specimens are readily available in good condition for future secondary laboratory testing as required.
  • Communicate with other members of the research team regarding the recruitment and sampling of study participants, and respond to requests for support in a timely manner.
  • Work in compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice, Good Clinical Practice, and other local and international regulations.
  • Laboratory/Health Analyst D3 or BSc 
  • Experience with specimen archiving is desirable.
  • Fluently speaking and writing in English;
  • Computer literacy and proficiency a must.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team.
  • Demonstrate high level of organization skills and attention to details;
