Love Frankie - USAID Harmoni Project Job Vacancy: Strategic Communications Specialist, Jakarta

The anticipated, four-year USAID-funded HARMONI activity will promote tolerance and inclusion and reduce the risk of violent extremism in Indonesia. HARMONI will focus support on interventions that narrowly target communities and individuals most at risk of radicalization, with an explicit mandate to build the resilience of key Indonesian institutions – government, civil society, religious, and community-based – that represent the frontline in preventing violent extremism in Indonesia. The project will focus on at-risk communities and vulnerable population groups.

Position Summary:
This full-time position will support the Senior Strategic Communications Advisor (SCA) in integration and delivery of insights-driven communications approaches in the Harmoni project to reach and engage a broad range of beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Overall the strategic communications function will seek to identify and test appropriate communications channels (online and offline), mediums, messengers, and messages with the ultimate objective of shifting knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors vis-à-vis intolerance and radicalization.

Working with and supporting civil society partners on the national and sub-national level will be a key aspect of this approach, experience in providing training or capacity building would be preferable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with communication strategy design, adaptation, implementation, and monitoring with program staff and technical experts in line with the project strategic plan.
  • Working with the SCA developing, pre-testing, and producing communication tools based on insights-driven methodologies, in line with the strategic communications strategy.
  • Coordinating with research firms, advertising agencies, public relations experts, production vendors, community mobilizers, and/or consultants hired by the project to assist with delivery of strategic communications activities
  • Coordinating with stakeholders, primarily grantees, to assist with design and implementation of strategic communications activities
  • Working with the M&E staff and the SCA to monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of strategic communications activities.
  • Assisting in documenting project results and impacts in various forms, including media stories, lessons learned, case studies, client satisfaction, and other areas, and contributing to regular quarterly and annual reporting.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS/BA in communications, international development or other relevant fields (e.g. design, anthropology, linguistics, politics, religious studies, media studies)
  • 5+ years of experience in communications and/or international development, candidates with direct experience developing strategic communications or social behavior change communications (SBCC) preferred
  • Substantive experience in at least one of the following fields: digital communication strategy, design research, visual design, rapid ethnography, semiotics, discourse analysis
  • Ability to translate technical material for programming through various media channels, including broadcast and mobile technology-based media.
  • Ability to travel domestically to support and monitor communications activities
  • Native Bahasa Indonesia and excellent English oral and written communication skills
  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team unit.
